JOHN-ROSS PHOTOGRAPHY / THE LIGHT DESK
WHERE LIGHT
MEETS MEANING.
A small room. A few deliberate choices. Explore how light, colour and atmosphere shape a photograph.

Start with one light. Move it, then notice what changes.
Your room / lighting study
REAL PHOTOGRAPH · ILLUSTRATIVE LIGHTUpload a wide-angle photograph, taken from where you want to view the space. Choose a light below, then click or drag on the photograph to place its effect. Use a well-exposed image with detail in the shadows. A working copy is resized to a maximum of 1,000 pixels on its longest edge; your original file is unchanged.

Effect centres belong to this photograph. Position each contribution directly on the image. These are feathered colour and exposure changes, not reconstructed 3D lights. Existing shadows and reflections remain baked into the photograph. Hidden surfaces, occlusion, new cast shadows and exact lux are not inferred. This office study uses its own base exposure. It is separate from the portrait camera settings.
01 / Place the light
ROOM / TOP VIEWCamera at the bottom; background at the top. Drag any numbered light. Every light aims at the subject. Position sliders offer the same control.
02 / Notice the difference
ILLUSTRATIVE / CAMERA VIEWA geometric wooden mannequin follows the raised-arm pose in your reference. Full body and waist-up use the same lighting. Soft shadows, wood shading and highlights are illustrative, not a reconstruction of the photographed object. *Relative to this light at 1 m, with the same power.
03 / Shape the source
LIVE ADJUSTMENTS0% adds no light; 100% uses the current source output. This is a relative dimmer, not watts or a calibrated fixture reading. It affects the active workspace. Portrait and office setups are stored separately.
04 / Set the camera
CONTINUOUS LIGHTExposure is not light output
Opening the aperture or slowing the shutter admits more light. Raising ISO changes the camera’s response; it does not illuminate the room. This desk models relative brightness only. It does not simulate depth of field, motion blur or ISO noise.
For video, choose shutter timing to suit frame rate and motion, then test your actual LEDs for flicker. For flash, shutter behaviour and sync limits differ from this continuous-light model.
05 / Build the atmosphere
LIGHT BEFORE FILTERSCustom looks stay in this browser when storage is available. Save project also includes them.

OPTIONAL / CREATIVE STARTING POINTLoad a photograph to collect a few colours. Choose a swatch to colour the selected accent light. An image colour is an artistic cue, not a measured lamp spectrum or a guaranteed gel match.
