Heres full schedule of the 72nd Liberation day celebrations

St. Peter Port

From 9am: Ex-RNLI Lifeboats
Victoria Marina
Four ex-RNLI lifeboats will be moored in the Victoria marina on Liberation Day.
1938 Watson Class Lifeboat – Samuel and Marie Parkhouse
1954 Watson Class Lifeboat – City of Bradford III
1989 Tyne Class Lifeboat – Mary Irene Millar
1989 Tyne Class Lifeboat - Moonbeam

 

9am: Inter School relay
Seafront
The annual Liberation Day Road Relay race remains the oldest activity of the Liberation Celebrations, having been run annually since 1946 making this year’s race the 72nd to be run. 

Teams, drawn from the Grammar School, Elizabeth College, Blanchelande, La Mare de Carteret, Les Beaucamps, St Sampson’s High and Ladies College, pit their physical athletic skills against each other in the pursuit of winning the trophy that is awarded to each of the winning boys and girls teams.

 

10am & 10:25am:  Parade and Inspection
White Rock and North Esplanade
The Liberation Church Parade, under the command of Tim Slann, will march off from St Julian’s Emplacement (White Rock) at 10am and will be led by the Band of The Queen’s Division. The islands Lieutenant-Governor Sir Ian Corder KBE, CB and the Bailiff will inspect the parade outside the Guernsey Information Centre.

10am – 5pm: Love Food, Love Life, Love Liberation Day
Various locations
Liberation Day is a time to celebrate and enjoy.  From mouth-watering home made burgers to hot dogs, traditional fish & chips, donuts, cakes, waffles, ice creams, milkshakes, Thai cuisine and much more – all tastes are catered for!

 

10am – 5pm: Markets Galore
Various locations
A myriad of stalls and pop up shops offering a huge variety of products and produce.

 

10am – 5pm: Ninja Extreme Assault Course
Albert Pier
A new attraction of 2017 Liberation Celebrations is the Ninja Assault Course, the first of its kind.

 

10am – 5pm: Facepainting by Joni
Crown Pier
Bring the kids for a facepainting session or come just to marvel at Joni’s creations.

 

10am – 5pm:  Inflatable Zone
Crown Pier
Island Castles will once again be providing the children with hours of bouncy fun.

11am (doors open at 10am):  Liberation Church Service
Town church
The Liberation Church Service will be led by the Dean of Guernsey The Venerable Timothy Barker and the Preacher is The Venerable Ian Wheatly, The Chaplain of the Fleet and Archdeacon for the Royal Navy. *An alternative service is being held at Les Adams in St Peter’s

 

11am – 4pm: Royal Navy Patrol Boat
Crown Pier
The Royal Navy will have a patrol boat moored in the Victoria Marina:  HMS Dasher will be available for islanders and visitors to go aboard in small groups of 8-10 people for a tour lasting 10-15 minutes.

 

11am – 5pm: FCG Creation Station
Market Square
For younger children wanting to create and make their own Liberation Day keepsakes, the FCG Air Dome is the place to be.

 

12pm – 5pm:  Crown & Anchor
Picquet House
Place your bets at this Guernsey favourite which originated in the 18th Century.

 

12pm – 4:30pm:  Dance Zone
Albert Pier
Always popular, the Dance Zone is a great opportunity for our young (and not so young) dancers to perform.  Programme is:
12pm – 12:30pm: Samba Burros, also performing at Market square at 2pm
1pm – 1:30pm: The Guernsey Majorettes
2pm – 2:30pm:  B-Creative
3pm – 3:30pm:  Rebellion All-Stars
4pm – 4:30pm:  Belles & Broomsticks, also performing at Liberation Monument at 1:30pm and Music at Castle Cornet at 2:45pm

12pm – 5pm: The Homefront Marquee
Crown Pier
Liberation Celebrations would not be the same without the iconic and emotive swing sounds of the 1940s music in the Homefront Marquee that will be on the hammer end of the Crown Pier.

 

12pm: Samba Burros
Dance Zone, Albert Pier
Originally formed in 2000 for the Millennium celebrations, drum troupe Samba Burros and their infectious rhythms can regularly be seen performing at all Guernsey’s major events.

1pm: Belles and Broomsticks
Liberation Monument
The Belles are a mixed Cotswold and Border Morris side who dance the Morris because they enjoy it.  A firm favourite!

 

2pm – 5pm:  Music at Castle Cornet
Castle Cornet
Entrance to historic Castle Cornet is free on Liberation Day.  A musical programme that will be opened and closed by performances from The Band of the Queen’s Division in the Middle Ward.

 

2pm – 10pm:  House at POW
Prince of Wales’ Beer Garden, Smith Street
A free event for all house lovers with UK DJs Dave Aura and Mark Robinson. The event will be first-come first-served as capacity is limited.

 

2pm: Samba Burros
Market Square

2:15pm: Cavalcade of military vehicles and classic cars
Departs Pembroke at 2:15, static display at Bus Terminus from approx. 2:45pm
The Guernsey Military Vehicle Group (GMVG) and the Old Car Club will be joining forces again with their procession of World War II military vehicles and vintages cars.

2:30pm:  MK4 Chinook Helicopter Flypast
Seafront
A MK4 Chinook Helicopter from RAF 27 Squadron will conduct a flypast along the eastern seafront at 2:30pm.

2:45pm: Belles and Broomsticks

The Belles are a mixed Cotswold and Border Morris side who dance the Morris because they enjoy it.  A firm favourite!

 

4pm – 11pm: LibRock
Albert Pier
LibRock has been the annual live rock concert on Liberation Day for many years.  The line up this year is Unclassified, Problematic, Silverados, Clameur de Haro, The Recks and The Devotees.

 

4pm: Belles and Broomsticks

10pm – 2am (Wed 10 May): DJ Mark Knight
Fusion Night Club
Leading player in dance music culture Mark Knight is coming to Guernsey for a huge night of celebrations.

 

Around The Island

10am: Liberation Slipway Service & Coffee Morning
Cobo Slipway, Castel
A service will be conducted by Revd Karen Dack with a blessing of the flags.  A coffee morning will take place at Cobo Community centre 10:30 – 12pm

 

10am:  Les Adams Methodist Church Liberation Day Church Service
Les Adams Methodist Church, Route des Adams, St Peters
A Liberation Day family service will take place from 10am.  This service is in addition to the service held in St Peter Port’s Town church and may be of interest to those less able to make the trip into town. 

 

7pm:  Festiva’s Liberation Spring Proms
St James Concert Hall
A night of quite unashamedly patriotic music with favourites such as  ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and ‘Rule Britannia’ floating through the doors of St James.
